Summer is my favorite season.
Because I live in Minneapolis, summer is very short.
We are fortunate to have 3 full months of this sweet season.
As a result of the contrast in our weather we have in the upper Midwest, I find it is easier to savor more moments, during the summer.
The freedom I feel in this beautiful season comes to me in a few ways.
First, I get to wear little clothing in the summer. No bundling up in boots, down coat, scarf, and gloves. Sun dresses and sandals are my favorite things to wear.
Next, I appreciate the green grass, leaves on the trees and our many flowers that grace our yard. I even find peace in pulling weeds, sitting on my garden cushion upon the earth.
I so enjoy hearing the birds singing and so far, this spring, watching two different sets of birds feed their babies in the nest on our deck.
Also, sitting out on our deck in the evenings, eating our dinner, talking to Hale, and enjoying nature, is something I dream about in the dead of winter.
Therefore, during the summer, it’s easier to live in my present moments, enjoying so many things.
Furthermore, this summer, we get to enjoy being near Lake Erie at the guest house, across the street from my parent’s summer home.
We will take our older teenage grandkids for one week and then my son and our two younger grandkids will come for 4 days.
I so look forward to us spending time with my parents and Ohio family.
Due to my love of this season, and the freedoms I have, I’m looking at spending some time next winter staying on the beach.
Our fifth grandchild will be born in September to my daughter Abby and her husband James, in Sanford, Florida.
New Smyrna Beach is only about 40 minutes from them, on the Atlantic Ocean.
Since I have been thinking about this for quite a while, it’s time to make it happen!
Depending on how long we are down there in the winter, we could also have our grandkids join us on a break they have from school.
Plus, being near our new grandbaby will be wonderful!
If you know of a great place to rent, in this area on the beach, let me know.
I found a piece about summer and how the times today are different from years ago, written by Mitch Albom.
I’ll share the link at the bottom if you want to read the entire article.
Here is a piece of what he says about today and how parents may be keeping their children too busy during their time off of school:
“If we don’t enroll our kids in an activity, all they’ll do is text. Or watch TV (and text) or talk on the phone (and text).”
Well, you could prevent that. You could take away the cell phone, the iPod, the Nintendo. Then see if you can get your kid to do four things in a day:
- Have a face-to-face conversation with a friend.
- Read something.
- Build something.
- Get wet. A pool. A hose. A sprinkler. Whatever.
That’s really enough. Before you can blink, it’s the school year again, where every day is jammed with sports, AP classes, student government, and field trips.”
What are the things you love and enjoy about summer?
Message me with your thoughts, I’d enjoy hearing them!

Lastly, my hope is, you will enjoy and cherish all your freedom you may feel, with everything that comes with this season.
Love and blessings,
Connie
