You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep rereading the last one. Do you agree?
This meme spoke to well over 850 people on my social media channels.
I know for me, until I gave up the pain, bitterness and anger for my ex-husband many years ago, I was rereading my last chapter. I couldn’t really start the next chapter.
When that time came, I felt the freedom to be who I was meant to be. I could move on with my life.
I have written about the book Radical Forgiveness by Colin Tipping and how this book changed my life. He shares about a very different type of forgiveness than we traditionally learn. If you’re having any issues letting go and forgiving someone, I encourage you to read this book.
When you stay stuck in your bitterness, hatred and anger, you’re not able to move into the next chapter of your life.
It’s easier said than done to release your past and move into the next chapter of your life.
I read a blog about this topic recently. http://www.amyreesanderson.com/blog/you-cant-start-the-next-chapter-of-your-life-if-you-keep-re-reading-the-last-one/#.XR4cbPZFyUk
Here is what the author said:
“Moving Forward. That is a concept I have been taught since I was young. Whenever I went to my father or my Grandfather for advice in life, they would always tell me, “Just keep moving forward.” It was the solution to almost every problem I would take to them, and over time I began to understand why.
We go through a lot in life. We go through changes and hard things and loss and sorrow and happiness and joy and then change again. It is a never-ending stream of changes in our lives.
And whatever changes come and no matter how difficult they are, the best thing we can do to maneuver them is to just keep moving forward.
Somehow when we move forward, we find ourselves getting through it – when we move forward, we get through hard times. When we move forward, we cope with change. We progress and progressing is what life is for.
It is such a great reminder that we need to let go of holding on to the past. And instead, start moving forward to the future with hope, anticipation, and excitement for the positive things that are going to come. Because they will indeed come if we watch for them.”
This reminds me of one of my favorite Universal Laws I’ve shared in my articles, eBook and on my Kauai Spiritual Vacation Retreats. The Universal Law of Rhythm. Everything is like a pendulum. When it swings to the right, it must swing back to the left.
Everything in life is involved in a dance, swaying back and forth. The tide goes in and the tide goes out.
If you can keep this in mind, knowing that things will not stay the same, then soon you will be able to move on to the next chapter of your life.

As the author I shared above said, “move forward to the future with hope, anticipation and excitement for the positive things that are to come.”
