What does humility mean to you?
Being humble.
As I looked up some definitions for humility, one of them said it’s freedom from pride or arrogance. Not coming from your ego.
The quality of being humble. A sense of modesty.
One definition even stated humility was a low self-regard and sense of unworthiness.
Hmmm………..
This is not how I think of being humble or having humility.
I think humility is knowing where you are in the world in relation to others.
True humility involves understanding that each and every person has an equally important role to play in this world.
And an equally important contribution to make.
Being humble isn’t about being boastful or thinking you’re better than anyone else.
It’s about knowing you matter, we all matter.
True humility is to recognize your value and others value. It is to see there is far greater than yourself into who you can become, who others can become, and how much more you can do and be.
To be humble is to serve others and be for their good, as well as your own.
To be humble is to have a realistic appreciation of your own strengths, but also of your weaknesses.
Why is it so important to develop humility? It is a really good question to ask yourself. If you were to die today, could you say that you have been humble?
Humility is not something we finally achieve, it is something we seek and demonstrate each day.
It’s like going to the gym and developing your muscles. It takes choosing and actually getting into action as often as you can each day. Awareness of how you are behaving or thinking about yourself and others and how much you’re being of service.
I would encourage you to develop a quiet, modest but certain sense of your own value. You are no less important than other people.
Becoming a “shrinking violet” will help no one.
Remind yourself of your best qualities, and give thanks for the chance to play your role in the pattern of creation.
Developing sincere humility is a process, not something that is created overnight, but through diligence and commitment, it can be done.
As you become aware of your own humility or humbleness toward others and life, you will find more joy. You will be living a life you love.
As you are living a life you love, you have more to give to yourself and others. You’ll be attracting more of what you want into your life each day.
Please leave me a comment or send me an email with your thoughts about humility. I’d love to hear from you!~
With appreciation,
Connie
