Summer creates so many wonderful joys. I’m loving our summer weather here in Minneapolis!
We live in colder weather and perhaps snow for about 6 months out of our year.
Summer feels like freedom to me. How about you?
Freedom to not bundle up to go outside and the joy of sitting out on our deck to eat our meals. I sit and marvel, hearing the birds sing, feeling the warmth of the sun and smelling the wonderful fragrance of the flowers.
Summer means my Friday morning water aerobics class is in the outside pool. It feels like heaven to me to be out in the sunshine and the glorious smell of beautiful lilacs, enjoying this fun class for one hour. There’s a smile on my face the entire hour!
Shown in the photo above are some of our flowers blooming in our beautiful yard right now.
I know it’s not officially summer yet, not until June 21st, only it sure feels like it!
I am our “weed puller” in our many flower beds in our yard. There is great pride I feel as I walk around the yard most days, pulling the weeds as I go along.
It was not easy to initially remove the leaves in our beds after the long cold winter to uncover the mulch and rid all the many areas of weeds.
Spending lots of hours out in our yard, not wanting to stop until I couldn’t go on any more is what I did. My back felt like it would break. I’d work until I felt like I had “hit a wall” and could barely stand up. Thank God for my chiropractors and massage therapist!
There’s a great sense of satisfaction I feel now seeing how beautiful everything looks.
It’s like life, sometimes you feel like you’re working harder and there’s no end in sight. And then suddenly you get to that point where you simply need to keep things moving forward, adding new things to your life or your business as you see there’s a need for whatever it may be. The intense hard work isn’t needed now.
You’re not working as hard as you did to prepare for a new business or a relationship. You lovingly pay attention to how things are going, just as I do most days walking around our yard, pulling a few weeds here and there.
Everything needs love and attention. Your close relationships with others and yourself, your business, co-workers, spiritual life, and your yard! Only it’s not always hard.
What else can you add to this list?
Summer reminds me to live in my present moments and to appreciate. What does summer do for you?
One thing I know for sure about the contrasts between summer and our winters, it sure does create more gratitude for the glorious days and evenings we get to experience.
With summer you get longer daylight hours, as well. As I get up about 6 am most days, it’s already light out. It stays light until after 9 pm. Having light instead of darkness, creates more joy inside of you doesn’t it?
During the Winter Solstice in December, it gets dark here at 4:30 pm. Major difference between then and the Summer Solstice, when it gets dark after 9:30 pm! That’s a 5-hour difference.
I must say, living here in Minnesota does help one to have perseverance!
Only with our summer we get a break from needing to endure the weather each day and feel like we are persevering.
My dream is to live on a beach after Christmas until the beginning of May!
I’m getting closer each year to realizing this dream.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about what summer means to you. Will you contact me with your thoughts?
With much appreciation for this time of year and for each of you who read my articles,
