The Laker Chicks over the years, is the first time I’ve written about our special group.
First of all, we began getting together at the lake home of our friend, Gayle in 1991.
Our events have taken place in three of Gayle and her husband, Dale’s beautiful lake homes on Lake Tippecanoe.
Since we valued exercise and staying healthy, most of us met at Fitness Unlimited in Muncie, Indiana.
We were all mom’s of kids under 10 years old, in the beginning, and enjoyed getting together for a few days, without kids or husbands.
The photo above is our first year together, 33 years ago, and we became the Laker Chicks.
Consequently, we went on to enjoy 29 years with most of us together, each summer.
We began as 6 of us and now in May 2024, we are 5 of us.
Because Covid and life happenings, got in our way after our time together in 2019, this is the first time in 5 years back in Indiana at the lake.
Above all, our years all together, will live on in our hearts and memories.
The laughter, the tears, the fun, good food, drinks, conversation and a deep connection, make us unique.
Since one of the Laker Chicks has chosen not to be a part of our group, without explanation, it’s now a different feeling.
Don’t get me wrong, we still enjoy our time together. It’s just different without the 6th person. We each bring something different to the table.
I’ve added a collage of 6 of the years at the bottom, with this year of 2024, the first.
Gayle and her family lost a a very special part of their family to a year long battle with brain cancer.
William, her 8 year old grandson and the youngest of 4 boys, fought a brave fight for just over one year.
Before his passing, he designed the Brave t-shirts we are all wearing. The proceeds go to his foundation his parents set up, to help others in need.
If you’d like to purchase a t-shirt, to help others, here is the link to do so:

Lastly, I’d like to thank my Laker Chick friends, for being there for me through tough times and good times.
My hope is we will get together for years to come on Lake Tippy.
We now live from Southern Indiana, the Muncie, Indiana area, to Minneapolis and Fairbanks, Alaska.
Finally, my hope is each of you reading this, have friends with history and special memories similar to ours.
I love and cherish, each of the Laker Chicks.
With love and appreciation,
Connie
