It’s the little things in life or seemingly little, that help me feel appreciation.
What about you?
First, I just experienced my first outside aqua class this year.
This class will be in the outside pool, until Labor Day, weather permitting.
Because the temperature outside was just 60 degrees and cloudy, I wasn’t sure it would happen.
The air was cool and the water felt warm. As I caught my first scent of the beautiful lilacs growing next to the pool, I had a big smile on my face.
It’s the little things in life, isn’t it?
Similarly, as I was taking our 2 and 3 1/2 year old grandchildren for a walk in the double stroller, we smelled the lilac’s scent.
As I stopped to pick a small branch, we heard birds singing.
I pointed it all out to them.
Children this age, help remind me to live in joy and appreciation as much as I can.
Actually, when I’m with them, it’s easy.
From their yelling, “Grandma” and running to hug me as I get to their home, to each comment and activity, in between.
The seemingly little things in life, really aren’t so little, when you think about it.
Furthermore, the moments we each have are fleeting.
I find when I consciously slow down and find that appreciation, I can hold onto the moment maybe a bit longer.
Life is very precious.
In addition, I choose to make dinner a special occasion each night with my husband and when anyone is joining us.
Even if we are having left overs, or as my dad calls them, “planned overs.”
We have candles on a table I’ve set, music and we have conversation. Phones aren’t allowed at the table.
Another thing, when our older grandkids are with us, a lot of the time, we play a card game or board game.
A saying that comes to mind often is: “When you play together, you stay together.”
Similarly, with my parents and other family members, over the years, we have played lots of card games together.
It also helps to get to know each other as we play the games. Usually there’s laughter and joking.
The little things in life.
What can you think of, that helps you to slow down and appreciate the moment?
“It’s the little things that make happy moments, not just the grand events. Joy comes in sips, not gulps.” – Sharon Draper
“So let’s stop and open our eyes. And start enjoying the little things in life a whole lot more.”
Here’s to slowing down, enjoying your present moments, finding appreciation,
Connie
