What are some ways you can be of service to others?
Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting my daughters friend, Andriana Santiago, while I was in Orlando before my daughter gave birth.
Because she values being of service to others, she developed a program in 2014, sponsoring refugees in Uganda.
The name of her program is, EMCL, Education, Mentorship, Communication and Laughter.
“I’ve created EMCL Collective to share what I’ve been doing in hopes to create a support system, a collective, of individuals who want to be a part of empowering some incredible human beings who would otherwise have no chance at higher education.”
Andriana
Therefore, as I listened to her stories of how she and others are donating to this cause, and have helped these young people, I knew I wanted to share about being of service.
As a result of taking the time, money and courage to help others, she has greatly changed these individuals lives.
“Andriana develops life empowering workshops, rooted in communication, laughter and empowerment. Workshops are shared internationally with educators and students in person and digitally.”
Hence, you may not have developed programs such as she has, only what can you do to make a difference?
I believe to truly be successful and leave a legacy, you must be in balance with all aspects of your life. And being of service, is a big part of balance.
This means being of service to others in whatever way fits your lifestyle. Whether its mailing a check to your favorite charity, donating time to the homeless, or assisting in your community as a mentor; it’s as important to you, as to those you may serve.
Similarly, I often speak about adding to life, instead of taking from it.
Therefore, as you give, you enhance your own life. You get closer to finding the balance I speak about.
How do you find things of interest to you that will keep you happy and fulfilled in service opportunities? Write a list of things that excite you. Or things that help you to feel that warm feeling.
Then begin to research opportunities in your area, that would fulfill your desire to be of service.
Consequently, as I did my research on this topic, I found an acronym I have never heard of.
As you are looking for something to donate your time, money and energy to, use F.I.T.S.
F-Fit, does it fit your life and who you are?
I-Important, how important is this charity to you and who you are?
T-Timing, is it the right timing for you?
S-Simplicity, is it simple and clear? Is this charity or donation, in alignment with your mission in life?
Lastly, as I am looking at myself and my own life, I will be adding to some of the ways I am being of service to others.
What about you? I’d love to hear from you about ways you are giving back. Send me an email.
With love and appreciation,
Connie
