How often do you find yourself having fun, slowing down and cherishing your present moments?
Last weekend was one of my times I found myself having lots of fun!
After a few days in Dallas at our annual eWomen Conference, I flew to Houston to spend a couple nights with my friend of 58 years, Donna, and her husband, Jim.
I caught myself so often really being aware of how much I was cherishing each of my moments with them. They are a very fun couple with lots of great energy.
Donna and I first met in first grade back in our hometown, Toledo, Ohio. We’ve been friends for a very long time now. I moved away from the Toledo area back in 1981. We’ve stayed in contact throughout the year per phone and email.
When we see each other again, it’s as if no time has passed. We talk and talk and catch up on so much in our lives.
The photos above are from the first night I was there. Donna and Jimmy live on Lake Conroe, north of Houston. We took their pontoon boat to a restaurant for a late dinner that had karaoke that evening as well.
Now, being on a boat is always fun for me, and to dock the boat and then go in to have dinner was extra special.
Shortly after dinner, they began with the karaoke. Some of the first people singing were so good they could have been on the TV show The Voice!
Jimmy enjoys singing and so do I. Neither of our voices are the caliber of most of the other singers, only we still got up together to sing 3 songs. He sang a few songs by himself and enjoyed it all.
I sang a song I absolutely love to sing from the 1960’s. A Leslie Gore song, “It’s My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To”. It’s fun to sing and I threw in dance and movement. Ha!
As the evening went on, all the singers sat at the same long table and I felt the support we had for each other.
I didn’t care that my voice was nowhere near as good as the others. I simply found myself having fun. Lots of fun!
What are you doing in your life that finds you having fun? Cherishing your moments and slowing down?
I have been cherishing the times I have spent on my last couple trips this summer with my parents at their summer home, my friend Debbie from second grade, my sisters, cousins and other family members. I even got to say my goodbye to my younger cousin, Suzanne, who passed away the next week after I was with her. I’ll always cherish the moments I was with her.
My eWomen Conference in Dallas I found myself creating new friendships and learned from one of my favorite teachers, Sandra Yancey, the Founder of eWomen.
As my life goes on, allowing myself to have fun and do things that I may have hesitated to do, comes more easily.
I encourage you to consciously slow down too and cherish your moments and have fun!
I’m heading out of town again this weekend to my 29th annual Laker Chick retreat, in Indiana. We all met when our children were young in the town we lived in, Muncie, Indiana.
Once again, I will be on a boat, since they live in a beautiful home on Lake Tippecanoe, in northern Indiana.
I’ll continue to cherish my moments with my longtime friends, slow down and have fun!
Here’s to you taking the time to do the same!
With love and appreciation,
Connie
