Radical Forgiveness is a something I learned about in 2012, after reading Colin Tipping’s book.
I must say it helped me to let go of the last, lingering blame I had for my ex-husband, the father of our two children, after leaving me with a 27 year old, years before.
Colin’s book got me to think about forgiveness in a way I really hadn’t allowed myself to think of up until that point.
And now today, as I was driving to the grocery after my fun Friday water aerobics workout, a man all of a sudden stopped in front of me, lost he said, to then try to get into the next lane, and I smashed my new car into the back of his SUV. Minor damage to his car with lots of damage to mine.
Could there be a divine purpose behind everything that happens? If you’re willing to embrace this possibility, every aspect of your life can change. This is the theory behind Radical Forgiveness, Colin Tipping’s revolutionary method for liberating your energy for the soul’s highest expression.
I’m writing this article now after this accident today, knowing fairly quickly as I drove home, I needed to turn once again to Radical Forgiveness.
In traditional forgiveness, it’s more about letting by gone’s be by gone’s.
How do you do that? With traditional forgiveness, most of us learned about as children, it can help us get stuck in being a victim.
With Radical Forgiveness, everything that happens to us is happening for a reason. It’s up to us to find out what that is.
It’s for us to learn the gifts and lessons we need to learn while we are here.
People bring us what we need for our healing or development. In the thick of a nasty fight, divorce or situation with someone, this may be difficult to remember.
In the scope of things that happen in our lives, my accident, is a small happening. I still am not sure of what this lesson may be, only I do know I’m calm now and the subject for this weeks blog came into my mind!
Colin Tipping says with traditional forgiveness, it’s a process:
- Tell the story of what happened ( in the case of my ex-husband leaving me, I told it a million times!)
- Feel the feelings from your story for as long as it takes
- Then may come the understanding of why someone did what they did ( if you get to this part!)
With Radical forgiveness, you consciously become willing to entertain, as quickly as you can, there is a divine purpose that this person or situation showed up to teach you something.
Colin teaches many tools to shift your energy.
Life isn’t a random set of events without purpose.
As a soul we are learning lessons.
Others may be reflecting something in me that I’ve denied or rejected.
When being aware of Radical Forgiveness, you may notice patterns you or someone else may have, that keep repeating themselves, over and over. You then slow down and know there’s something you need to learn. It’s an opportunity to wake up.
Many times our lessons come from troublesome people. When you learn they are there to “serve you”, to help you learn something, then you can move through the situations faster. It’s not about being in an abusive relationship or becoming a door mat with anyone. That’s never OK.
You’re shifting your energy as you’re doing your forgiveness work. Colin says our wounds happen to our spiritual body and then the wound moves into our emotional body. Eventually it could move into your physical body, if you aren’t aware of Radical Forgiveness and work with this concept.
We can use it to heal our wounds and trauma from childhood and past events.
Here are the 4 quick steps that Colin Tipping shares to move through things when you notice something is happening in your life that could be a lesson you need to learn:
- Simply notice what you have created ( taking your responsibility, I’m still not sure why the accident happened today)
- Notice your judgment and feelings, and love yourself anyway
- Be willing to see the perfection in this situation
- Say and feel, “I choose peace”
Change your attitude, change your life. Sounds fairly simple right? It could be, if you choose to slow down and become aware of Radical Forgiveness.
Pay attention to forgiving yourself too. Become aware when your critical self is present.
As I’m finishing writing this only 4 hours after my car accident, I now am feeling peace. I have put this into perspective and I’m so happy no one was injured. I’m aware that a continued lesson is, to slow down and appreciate everything, as often as I can.
This is Radical Forgiveness. If you want to really jump in and learn more, I urge you to buy his book.
My hope is you will apply all of this, after you search your heart and slow down becoming aware of what is going on with you.
