Friendships
By Connie Hertz
This begins the month of November, and here in the US, we observe our Thanksgiving.
I’m going to be writing each week about what I’m thankful for during this month.
The photo here is from this past January, in Chicago during a fun, cold snowy weekend, with my friends, The Laker Chicks! We were at one of the chicks daughter’s wedding and reception.
This group of friends have been getting together every summer, at one of the chicks beautiful lake homes, on the awesome Lake Tippy, west of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, for going on 25 years! This summer marks our 25th anniversary of this most amazing group of friends, getting together for a few days and nights, laughing, talking, sharing, eating, drinking and simply having fun!
I cherish our friendships, and love how we’ve all grown and been there for each other during wonderful times and sad times. The 6 of us are all very different in many ways, and yet our friendship has “stuck” in a very special way.
We all met when our kids were young, at a workout place in Muncie, Indiana, where we all lived.
At first it was a time of getting away by ourselves, as wives and mothers, taking a few days to be ourselves.
Now as the years have passed, we are all past 50 and most of us are grandma’s. We get together for a day or two longer than in the early days, and mostly we stay in for our dinners, since we all enjoy each other’s cooking so much! We laugh hard, go out on the pontoon during the days that the weather permits, play card games, and just enjoy our moments that all 6 of us get to be together.
I am the only one of the Laker Chicks that lives outside of Indiana now. There are only two that remain in the Muncie, Indiana area. So, the times we all get together are so precious.
I have many friends I cherish in my life.
Today I give thanks for all of the old friendships as well as all of my newer friendships.
All of them have added to my sum total of who I am today.
Take time today to connect with some of your friends you haven’t spoken to in awhile!
With love and blessings,
Connie
