Because friendship is important to me, I thought it was time to write about it again.
Since I just had my birthday recently, I was so grateful to everyone who took the time to send me a card, wish me birthday wishes on social media, send me texts and call me.
So, due to valuing friendship, I find gratitude often.
First of all, spending time with friends and family, has become more cherished over the years.
I value my old friendships as well as any new friendship I gain.
After talking on the phone this morning with my friend from first grade, Donna, we both felt so energized.
As Donna texted me afterward saying “you made my day”, I knew this was a good topic for my article.
Only how often do you stop and reach out to those friends you cherish?
I know as I’m busy in my everyday life, I don’t reach out as often as I’d like.
Since an old friend from my days in Muncie, Indiana, was going to be near me here in Minnesota, she reached out. We were able to have a nice lunch together with her husband, and catch up.
For instance, I wrote about my friendship with the Laker Chicks after we were together in May of this year, back in Indiana.
We hadn’t been together for 5 years, since before Covid.
It’s wonderful to pick up where you left off in many ways with your close friendships, isn’t it?
Furthermore, I value my friendship with my husband, dad, daughter, son, sisters, brother, my sister-in-law, and other family members.
How can we increase our time with all of those we love and improve a friendship?
What are your thoughts?
I’d love to hear from you about ideas that work for you.
Above all, I believe it’s important to let people know what they mean to you.
Whether it’s through a written message, a phone call or message, telling them in person, or doing something kind for them.
As a result of cherishing friendship, I have three friends from my childhood I’m in contact with throughout the year.
One is Donna, I mentioned, friends now for 63 years, Debbie friends for 62 years and Sharon, 59 years.
In August I will get to spend 3 nights with Debbie at the resort my dad lives at from April until October, near Lake Erie.
We’ve done this two other times, and had a blast!
Plus I spent a week with Debbie and my friend Caroline ( friends for 38 years), in Florida at our condo, shown in a photo below.
I’m hoping to see Sharon while I’m back there for the 2 1/2 weeks.
Since we have 3 family weddings in the Toledo area, I will get to see much of my family as well and spend lots of time with Dad.
There are so many other friendships that matter to me, and too many to write about here.
You know who you are if you’re reading this. I am so blessed!
Additionally, we are not guaranteed time here on earth.
Life, health and time, are extremely precious.
Friendship is extremely precious.
As of this moment, I’m challenging myself to reach out to more people each week, that I’ve not spoken to in awhile.
What about you? Are you open to this challenge too?
Lastly, as I look back over my life and the many people I have been close to, I’m honored to continue to reach out to them, the best I can.
Here’s to increasing our time with those we love,
Connie
