Finding Gratitude In Everyday Life
By Connie Hertz
A few years ago, I began to consciously find appreciation and gratitude in my present moments.
I noticed as I did this, my moments turned into hours, and then whole days. Then most of my moments were lived in more joy than I ever felt.
It didn’t happen all at once.
It was a continual remembering to look around myself and find something to appreciate, a consistent process of playing this kind of game with myself, that made the difference. Like I spoke about last week, I went on a conscious “Rampage of Appreciation”.
I start my day off reading uplifting books, daily readings and I write in my “Gratitude Journal”. This sets the tone for my day to live in a way I want to live, and gets me in a positive frame of mind.
I have lived in more joy, most of my present moments since I began doing this.
Joy, as I stated last week, is one of the highest vibrational emotions we can have. Living in Joy, helps us to attract more of the positive things and people into our lives.
What do you love to do? Simple, everyday things?
Begin doing more of those things daily!
I love to sit out on my deck on a nice summer night, listening to the sounds of the birds, the frogs, the geese, the ducks, the breeze. I love to eat my dinner out there. The picture posted here is one night this past week, as I sat out there, taking in the beauty of the evening.
I love walking on a beach and hearing the sounds of the sea gulls, the ocean waves, and feeling the sun and the sand under my feet. I don’t live near an ocean, but when I get the chance to do this, it’s wonderful! I picture this setting for one of nature visualizations, as a way to relax. The beautiful thing is, I can do it anywhere anytime!
Try it, picturing your favorite nature place! Really get into the feelings and sounds you love in this setting. It helps lower your blood pressure, and helps you to stay healthier, the more often you do this.
Consistency is something I’ve found is vital to changing my habits around. Just doing something even in a small way, daily, will eventually become a new habit. This is true with any subject in my life.
A few things I’m grateful for today: clean windows and screens in my home, my great health, Hale, my parents and entire family, my kids and grandkids and my soon to enter the world any day, new granddaughter, Olivia Rose! I can’t wait to meet her and hold her!
Her dad, is my son, and first born child, Adam. Her mom is my daughter-in-law Laura.
I hope all of you reading this will begin to pay attention as often as you can to what you appreciate and love around you!
I guarantee, it will change your world, as you make this practice your new habit!
Here’s to living in joy, appreciation, love and wonder, of our surroundings!

I’ve been working hard to stay in gratitude. Was hoping you’d be free for dinner tonight so I’d have another thing to be grateful for! Sorry I missed you.
