Cherishing people in your life is something that I feel we need to take time to really do.
What about you? Do you slow down enough to really allow yourself the feelings of cherishing people in your life?
I’m thrilled I have been on the journey I’ve been on now, here on earth for going on 62 years. It’s not always been fun. It’s not always been easy or joyful.
The times I had in my world that made me wish I wasn’t here because I didn’t want to feel the pain I was living in at the time, are a huge contrast to where I’m at today.
I wouldn’t change anything about my life because I am today the sum total of all of my experiences. Do I wish at times I had “do overs’? Absolutely. Only we don’t have “do overs” in this life.
What we do get are moments where we can choose to slow down long enough to stop and find the feelings of cherishing people in our lives. We can choose to be kind. We can choose to smile at others and acknowledge them. When you do that, things take on a different feeling, a different light, don’t they?
The photo shown here is of my parents, Homer and Mary Shank, who are alive and well after 66 years of marriage, raising 5 children, 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
As many of you are reading this today, we will be celebrating my parents 66th anniversary and my Mom’s 85th birthday. I’m grateful to be joining many in my family and all of my siblings in Ohio, celebrating both of them. What an honor it is to be a daughter of these two beautiful souls who have taught me so much about life, love, faith in God, family and being of service.
I just viewed all of the testimonials from the participants from my 2016 Glow Kauai Spiritual Vacation Retreat. I watched the uncut footage our photographer Robert Brown took and heard what they each received from this amazing once in a lifetime experience. I am moved beyond words. I have only 19 spots plus me for our 2017 retreat coming up this fall.
The feeling of Ohana, the Hawaiian word for family, was present throughout the entire 7 days and nights of this unique retreat. While watching this short video from our 2016 retreat, see if you can feel this feeling of family. I found myself cherishing all of these people at a very deep level, as I know they did as well.
