What does it mean to be a good steward?
Because I recently heard a sermon that talked about this topic, I thought I’d do my research to share with you.
“Being a good steward means responsibly managing the resources entrusted to you, including your time, talents, and finances.
And to do it in a way that reflects care for others and honors God.
It involves using what you have to serve others, make wise decisions, and contribute positively to your community.”
For instance, below are five traits I found with short definitions of what it means to be a good steward:
1. Faithfulness
One of the most important traits of a good steward is faithfulness. This means being reliable, consistent, and trustworthy in managing the responsibilities given by God.
2. Accountability
Good stewards understand that they will one day give an account to God for how they handled what He placed in their care.
3. Wisdom
A wise steward knows how to make God-honoring decisions in every area of life. Wisdom enables us to discern right from wrong, invest time effectively, and avoid foolish mistakes.
4. Diligence
Diligence refers to hard work, persistence, and dedication. A diligent steward does not procrastinate or give up easily but works with passion and excellence.
5. Humility
Additionally, a humble person knows that everything belongs to God and that they are merely caretakers. Humility keeps the heart right and prevents pride from taking over.
So, after reading these attributes, which ones do you need to strengthen the most?
Furthermore, as I read and reflect on all of the above, paying attention each day to your thoughts, actions and words, is imperative to achieving this in your life.
Similarly, as we slow down and become aware of ourselves, we increase our chances to create this in our life, don’t we?
Personal responsibility definitely comes to mind.
Lastly, I will continue to be aware of myself and if I’m achieving these attributes and which ones I need to work on.
Remember, life is a journey. And the more you are alive, awake and self-reflective, the better you will become.
In other words, you will be raising your awareness as you move forward in your life.
With love and appreciation,
Connie
