Nurture yourself during the changing seasons.
The changing seasons are happening now, here in the north. I can feel it in the air.
The leaves have been changing to their beautiful, different colors and now falling rapidly.
How smoothly do you transition between the changing seasons?
In other words, are you like me, finding the colder air and darker days challenging?
As a result of taking a new yoga class, the instructor gently spoke of times of nurturing and hibernating.
The nurturing and cozy feelings I felt, while lying on the mat, reminded me it’s OK to slow down.
Additionally, it’s good to nurture yourself and find things to do that feel cozy.
As the instructor talked about how it’s normal in nature to do this, I felt a smile on my face.
First of all, it’s easier for me to have a light-hearted attitude when the sun is shining and it’s not cold and dreary outside. I’m reminded I need to create all of the cozy, nurturing things and feelings in my life.
So, what can you and I do to shift our thoughts and attitudes when we need this reminder?
“As the seasons change, they offer us a unique opportunity for reflection and reset. Each transition from winter to spring, summer to fall, or any seasonal shift invites us to pause, evaluate our lives, and consider what we want to carry forward into the next phase.
Nature has its rhythm, and each season brings distinct changes in the environment, weather patterns, and even our moods.
Transitioning between seasons can provoke a range of emotions. Reflecting on these feelings can help provide clarity about our goals and aspirations.
Autumn, which we are in now, symbolizes harvest—it’s a time for gratitude but also for letting things go.
To engage in reflection during this season:
- write in a daily gratitude journal
- take time to appreciate people and things around you
- reflect on your commitments
- take time for creative expression, whatever that is for you. For me, it’s writing.
Winter, coming soon, invites introspection and rest. A natural period of dormancy before the renewal of spring arrives again.”
For deeper reflection during this cold season:
- Meditation: Incorporate mindfulness or meditation into your daily routine. This practice allows space for thoughts to settle while promoting mental clarity. Perhaps attend yoga classes.
- Create a vision board, whether on your device or an actual vision board. Get clear by doing this, things you would like to have in your life.
- Establish self-care routines focused on rest and rejuvenation—warm baths, cozy reading sessions, listening to music, or quiet nights in can help recharge your spirit. Daily inspirational readings.
Reset your goals.
Create an action plan, breaking the actions down into manageable steps.
Get an accountability partner. They can help to keep you on track. Or keep each other on track.
Celebrate your progress. It’s important to congratulate ourselves, keeping our attitude upbeat.
In conclusion:
“Seasonal transitions provide an invaluable framework for reflection and reset in our lives.
By tuning into nature’s cycles through active reflection practices across each season—spring’s renewal, summer’s vibrancy, autumn’s harvest, and winter’s introspection—we can cultivate personal growth that aligns with our internal rhythms.
Embrace the power these changes offer not just as markers in time but as opportunities for transformative change within yourself.”
With love and appreciation,
Connie
