Family is so important to me.
First, family isn’t only blood relatives. I have people in my life that I feel close to and enjoy being with, who feel like family.
Hence, I feel that family connection. That special feeling.
I’ll include a collage of photos at the bottom with recent events and some of the people I call family.
Since I’m fortunate to have all but one grandchild here in our area, it warms my heart when all of us or some of us, are together.
Hale and I enjoy hosting dinners when we can.
I especially love it when the older grandkids play with the younger ones.
For instance, recently, we were celebrating Phoebe’s 20th birthday, and as Elijah, 3 and Elianah 4 1/2, spotted Phoebe pulling up, their cries of delight were priceless.
You see, they were waiting by the window for her. As she came in the door, they ran to her, giving her hugs, yelling, “Phoebe, Phoebe!” like she was a rock star.
I felt such love and warmth as I watched this.
As the meme above says, “Love your family. Spend time, be kind and serve one another. Make no room for regrets. Tomorrow is not promised and today is short.”
Because I reached out to my friend, Elda, a few days before her birthday, she was able to come celebrate with a birthday dinner, at our home.
She grew up, not celebrating birthdays, and once again, it warmed my heart to see her joy as we sang “Happy birthday” to her with a candle in a dish of ice cream.
I included a photo of her in my photo collage below of her smile and joy at that moment.
You see, Elda, is family to me and Hale.
We always love having her with us. The conversation is lively, and we get caught up on all of our lives. It’s never just surface talk.
What about you? Do you have people in your life you call family as well, who aren’t blood related?
Our 12 year old, 7th grade, granddaughter, Olivia and her little brother, Reid, 9, a third grader, had events on the same day recently.
Liv a swim meet and Reid a fun, lively concert about our solar system and planets.
Yes, back to back events, only what fun, to watch each of them doing something they really enjoyed.
Family. The enjoyment and pride I felt watching each of them, once again warmed my heart.
Because our oldest grandchild, Gavin, moved away last fall, we all thoroughly enjoyed having him with us to help celebrate our youngest grandchild, Elijah’s, 3rd birthday in February. The photo of that day is below.
As is a photo of my almost 96 year old dad, Homer, relaxing on our condo balcony in Florida. Spending the 24 days together, between Ohio at Christmas and afterward in Florida, was wonderful.
Lastly, Hale and his sister, Vicki, are one day and 5 years a part in age. We celebrated them in February with their 90 year old cousin, Ardes. Photo below.
Finally, I looked up some inspirational quotes about family I’ll share:
- “Family is not an important thing, it’s everything” Michael J. Fox
- “The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege” Charles Kuralt
- “Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten” Lilo & Stitch
- “Other things may change us, but we start and end with family” Anthony Brandt
- “A happy family is but an earlier heaven” George Bernard Shaw
Unfortunately, not all families are as mentioned above.
My hope is you are creating a family that warms your heart.
Love and blessings,
Connie
