Appreciation & Gratitude
By Ivana Siska
As I sit down to write this piece, I do what I typically do when I’m about to write: I close my eyes and breathe in all the wonder, the space, the air around me and allow my lungs to fill with life while my heart fills with love and my mind fills with wisdom.
Just like the air that I breathe and depend on for sustenance, the words that come through me are not my own, but merely fuel which then transforms within me before leaving my body to “be” something else yet again… and for that process I am extremely, indescribably and humbly appreciative and grateful.
I’ve been blessed with hundreds of opportunities to step back and take in life, and it’s processes. The spectrum of available experiences in this world is practically endless. Isn’t it amazing?
Truly, with each passing day, I find myself more and more in awe of the splendor that life is. I’m thankful for each and every moment I get to have on this planet, in this body, with this heart. I am acutely aware of what it feels like to believe that I will never again feel sunshine on my face and warm loving arms holding me tight.
I know what it feels like to not be able to move my body in the way it was designed to move, to be denied the sweetness of the expression of love, to be far from people I love, to have my freedom compromised, to be a prisoner of fear, and to witness the last seconds of life slip from a man’s lips as his soul departs. Life is brimming, full of gifts, every moment bestowing one after another to anyone who dares to receive them.
I was very young when I first became aware of how powerful and how blessed we are. To think of all of the gifts of realization, the forces of nature, the other beings we share our surroundings with, the feelings that transcend time and space, the absolute freedom we enjoy, well, it’s dizzying.
To realize all the things we do have, is staggering and so rich, I mean you must have noticed the rainbow of flavors in Mother Nature’s bounty. By drawing our attention and focus to all that we have, we cannot deny the sincere appreciation of our very existence.
I challenge you to look at the world again, with the curious eyes of a child; the wonder and delight are pure bliss. And that my dear friends is where the sweet spot is… being aware of the magic which surrounds us all, and then acknowledging it with sincere appreciation and gratitude. Look for the evidence of things to appreciate, and then celebrate them with gratitude. Life is sweet!

Imagine how starting your day with an attitude of gratitude will affect how you behave… how you will experience the people around you, how the people around you will experience you…
An attitude of gratitude allows you to function at a higher vibration and by the laws of quantum physics, “magically” attracts more positive and pleasant experiences.
*** Personally, I also love ending my days, and beginning my nights with this exercise.
TRY THIS AT HOME:
1. Upon waking (especially if you wake up a little grumpy, stressed or worried), take a moment to jot down just three things that you are grateful and thankful for. Really, actually write them down.
2. Now get out of bed and go about your morning “business”, but as you do, focus on the three things you wrote down. It takes a bit of practice, but you’ll get it; think of one while you shower, another while you brush your teeth, another while you make your morning tea, coffee or smoothie, etc….
3. Notice how that little routine affects you. Most of my coaching clients who follow this simple exercise report feeling more aligned, positive and happier, almost immediately. Easy, right?
