Enjoy Being You
by Ellie Peterson
Moving your body has so many health benefits. Remember when you were small and playing was fun. What kind of games did you enjoy the most? Many adults become sedentary. Moving your body releases physical toxins and it helps keep your mind uncluttered. We need more times in our lives to be childlike and playful.
Recently a class participant stated, “This workout is fun. It’s not like it was when I was in gym class.” Based out of my own need to fill my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs, I developed the Meditative Movement technique. It is designed to help you become aware of your own self, give you fun, affirming movements to perform that are easy to do, and free your spiritual being.
The practice starts with meditation.
1.Set a timer for 5 minutes.
2. Sit with your legs crossed or lie down on your back.
3.Remind yourself that this is exactly where you are supposed to be.
4.Close your eyes. (After you read the rest of the directions, of course!)
5.Now focus your attention on your breath, noticing how it comes freely in and out of your body.
6.Allow your thoughts to flow freely through your mind.
7.Change the rhythm of your breathing by deliberately inhaling through your nose. As you inhale, feel your abdomen expand with air and direct your thoughts by saying to yourself, “All Good Comes to Me.”
8.Exhale through your mouth, feeling your abdomen return to its’ normal position while saying to yourself “All Good Goes from Me.”
Each month I share a movement with my readers. January was “I am Happy”, February was “I am Loved” and March is “I Dream.” Visit my website at www.ppworkouts.com to experience these powerful movements.
Here’s part of my story. When I was 23 years old, I was divorced and raising three children (5, 3, and 1) while making $80 a week. As a one pack a day smoker, I weighed 110 pounds and thought I was fat. Fear, depression and worry were my constant companions. One day looking at my own reflection in the mirror I recall thinking, “Well, at least I can like my hair.”
This approach has changed my life. Today I am 56 years old, happily married with 3 healthy adult children and 5 grand boys. As a non smoker, weighing 130 pounds, and not taking any medication, I can truly say I’m happy with how I look and feel. Life is meant to be fun and having an energetic body makes it easy. I use this technique to help me work through my own barriers to living a successful life.
