LOVING YOURSELF
Mary Regnier
I arrived, innocent, on Planet Earth on January 26th, 1938. Born into an Irish Catholic family in Detroit, I began my journey protected by loving parents and had the pleasure of playing with four very creative and fun-loving siblings. My Catholic upbringing and education gave me certain values and structures on which to base my life. As I entered adulthood and married a very Catholic man, I lived the code of subservience and had five children, giving my all to my family.
Then, disaster struck—and not just once. First, one of my sons died as a baby, and later I was thrust into the dark passages of divorce. Just when I thought I couldn’t endure another blow, a second son died in an accident. Devastated, I spiraled into the depths of alcoholism.
By age 43, I had lost Mary. I was a mere shell, with no energy for my life and what had meaning to me. I was NO THING! I was in this world but no longer had the heart to interact with it nor the strength to pull myself out of this pit of despair. Dear God, how could I free myself from this darkness?
Dying from alcoholism, I experienced a near death experience in which I was told about the transformation that would take place on this planet and that I would play a part. I had no clue when this would happen or what I could do to help. Returning to life, I learned to go within and ask for direction: Who am I? What is mine to do? Why am I still here when I’ve lost all that has meaning to me? Finally, I surrendered to a Power greater than myself—and my new journey began.
Slowly, my strength and gifts emerged, along with the passion and purpose of my soul. I was being breathed back to life by Life Itself—and I was learning to love myself. Choosing life, not death, was my first step. All of my actions in my wheel of life—health, wealth, relationships, career, environment—had to reflect and support this choice.
I was invited to let go of all the patterns that no longer served me and to consciously create a new life with my thoughts, words, and feelings. Thus I birthed my dream and mission to be a speaker, interviewer, and strategist for transformational change for men, women, and children of all ages.
I wanted to help others love themselves and live their purpose as I had learned to do.
We’re all born with gifts to bring to this world—but we buy into societal codes and games and lose our innocence and enthusiasm. We may end up not loving ourselves enough to believe we have any gifts, so consumed are we by the mental, emotional, and physical “debris” the world piles upon our light.
How can you find your way back to the light and your right path?
First, you must love and support yourself. Even if your family isn’t in sync with your dream, you belong to the family of humanity, and plenty of fellow travelers are ready and willing to buoy you up and reinforce your dream if you ask.
Now is the time to love yourself enough to show up as the REAL YOU! Do you trust that you’re part of a Universal plan?
You won’t discover this on the ten o’clock news. Once you know within you that you’ve been chosen to bring your gift to the world now and you step into your potential, your glow will return. You’ll find peace within and a deep knowing of what is yours to do.
